Letter of condolence to Valeria Natsios-Mundell

Dear Valeria, dear Nicholas,

It was with great sadness that I learned of the passing away of your husband and your father. Allow me to express my sincere condolences to both of you.

I feel privileged that I had the opportunity to get to know him personally. He was always very friendly, attentive, and he had always something interesting to say to me (and to all of us). My many travels to Santa Colomba belong to my unforgettable experiences. It was astonishing how he was able to cope with the consequences of his stroke many years ago. It is unimaginable to me to forget him, all of you, Santa Colomba and Siena.

His contribution to the economics was enormous. I had a chance to express my views of it in the laudatio I delivered at the occasion of the granting of the honorary doctorate degree to him in March 2001 at the Prague School of Economics. He belonged to my most quoted authors.            

Your description of his last days will always stay in my memory.
