Letter to President of the University of Chicago Robert J. Zimmer

Dear President Zimmer,

Let me express my deep sorrow for the death of my personal friend, great economist and great fighter for free society and free markets Gary Becker. It is a great loss for all of us, for the University, for the economic profession all over the world.

I agree with the statement that he has been “the personification of Chicago economics”, hopefully not the last one. He was a great supporter of all of us in Central and Eastern Europe in the moment of the fall of communism, he always supported me personally. I was extremely honoured to be asked to speak at the celebration of his 80^th anniversary at the University which gave me a unique opportunity to say many positive words about him.

I wrote a personal letter to his wife Guity.
