Dear Mr. President,
On your last day in office, I would like to express my thanks for all your work which has contributed to strengthening the friendly relations between the United States of America and the Czech Republic.
Our countries are friends and allies. We have common values, common interests, common priorities, we are facing common threats and resolutely stand side by side in defense of freedom and democracy.
The Czech Republic is strongly committed to the transatlantic cooperation. This year will mark the 10th anniversary of the Czech Republic’s entry into NATO and the 20th anniversary of the events which led to the fall of the Iron Curtain. Your name, along with the name of your father, will be written in history in the chapters describing both of these events – events which were of key importance for freedom, stability and prosperity of my country. I would like to recognize your dedication and support to the Czech Republic’s involvement in NATO and to the fact that both our countries’ citizens, companies and politicians have closer to each other now.
I appreciate we have had several opportunities to meet in the past eight years and I will always cherish the memories of your visit here in Prague in June 2007.
Please accept, Mr. President, my heartfelt wishes of good health and every success in your future endeavours. I hope to have the opportunity to meet you again in the near future.
Reassuring you of my high esteem and consideration,
Yours sincerely,
Václav Klaus
